Basic Sanskrit for Yogis

  • Inner Spring Yoga 137 East Market Street New Albany, IN, 47150 United States (map)

Have you ever wondered what your yoga teacher is saying when she calls out the pose names? Are you a yoga teacher and want to sharpen your Sanskrit pronunciation (you'll be surprised at what you might be mispronouncing!)? Have you tried to read the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, the Bhagavad Gita, or any other work translated from Sanskrit and feel like you are lost in translation?

The Sanskrit language, the language of yoga, adds depth and understanding to your physical practice, and this vibrational language is the language of healing.

Join Carrie Klaus, E-RYT, YACEP for this informative workshop! Carrie has studied the Sanskrit language with Nicolai Bachman (author of The Language or Yoga), as well as Michael Johnson.

In this two hour workshop we will learn the importance of the Sanskrit language to yoga, the proper mouth positions for producing the sounds of the Sanskrit language, and explore the correct pronunciation of some of the most common words you'll find in a yoga class and in the Classic texts.

This workshop is for all students of yoga who wish to deepen their understanding of the language of this practice (not just for teachers).
