Elemental Ayurveda: Continuing Series

In the first part of this series we explored the history and philosophy of Ayurveda and its deep roots which intertwine with Jyotish (Vedic Astrology), Vaastu( Science of Structures), and Hatha Yoga; how these living sciences provide full, synchronous, and enriching support along our paths of self-discovery. We focused on the ways in which Ayurveda can help each of us realize the four harmonious goals of human life, the Ashramas, Kama, Dharma, Artha, and Moksha. We will review this opening in each of the three remaining sessions and explore:

The process of self-inquiry, which leads to understanding your Prakruti, your individual constitution, while understanding the qualities of the Doshas, universal pairings of elements, which fluctuate in and out of balance, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. We will learn directly from several Ayurvedic sutras, Vedic verses which enlighten us, on “removal of the cause” as a first medicine.
A new understanding of “Time”: days, seasons, age & celestial cycles which hold the greatest influence over our Prakruti, health and vitality. We will visit subtle pathways into Pranayama and meditation, which lead to intuitive “listening” to what Ayurveda terms the voice of your Inner Physician, which resonates with the wisdom of Time and Nature.

Pleasurable daily rituals and routines for sustaining health and vitality throughout life, including Abhyanga, rhythmic body massage with special attention toward head, hands, and feet, opening into the realm of Marma, and the spiritual value of intuitive touch; the Ayurvedic view of essential herbs and oils, the living essences of which are unique companions to each individualʼs Prakruti.

I look forward to sharing the stories, joys, poetry and seed-knowledge of Ayurveda with you, always with gratitude for my inspiring teachers, Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. David Frawley, Dr. Robert Svoboda, and Dr. Talavane Krishna. I will be directing you to many of their writings and study programs, as invaluable resources for life.
Peace, Kari
